Foam Koozie, Coozie, Cozy, Bottle Hugger, Whatever you call it

I think everyone has a different name for these things, but I call them koozies. My friend Brenda gave me the idea to create this project.  It is summertime and keeping our drinks cool is important. I gave my mom the first one I made and it has survived a week, so I thought it would be a good idea to share it. (8/23/12 UPDATE!!! the koozie I gave my mom, which she uses every day, is holding up great.)

Materials used for this craft were: a foam sheet, hot glue gun, nylon thread and needle (optional) and a pattern. I made my pattern from a koozie I already had. My pattern (as shown) for you to print out and use. It costs about $1 to make 3!

The best part about foam is that you can trace the pattern on top of it and you don’t have to worry about pencil/pen marks on it. After it is cut, wash the foam with hot water and soap. This makes it easier for stickers and other things to attach to it-if you choose to bedazzle it.

I cut a small piece of felt and glued it to the outside-bottom part. It will help keep the koozie from sliding.

After folding the foam into place, I hot-glued the sides together, one at a time and pressing firmly until the glue was set. Make sure to only overlap a little bit of the sides. The more overlap, the smaller the koozie.

I don’t know if it is really needed, but I sewed a few stitches on the bottom of each side with nylon thread. It is not very noticeable.

My pattern works great for water bottles.

I trimmed about 3/4 of an inch off the top for it to fit our glasses.  As you can see, I didn’t bedazzle it…yet. Decorating them with puffy paint, stickers and cut out shapes is an idea though.
