I’m still a beginner at sewing and I’m still making over the collar dog bandanas. It’s my favorite sewing project and I make them mostly to dress up my pup Charley Tina and donate to groups for fundraisers. Anyway, I felt like I needed to upgrade the pattern for a cat size ones, so I did. I reduced the size of my original dog bandana pattern and updated it to be made for our feline friends. Their collars are typically smaller width too. You can download my cat collar bandana HERE.
Instructions:
- Lay out the pattern onto the fabric of your choice. I prefer patterned fabric because it helps hide my stitches (that are sometimes a little less than perfect).
- Fold in the edge (dotted lines on the pattern) on each side and iron it until it’s completely flat. Wrong side of fabric should be facing up!
- Sew the small flaps down.
- Fold the fabric in half (at the middle line drawn on the pattern). Sometimes the point doesn’t match. This is not biggy! The main thing is to fold it with the “wrong side” facing out. Iron the fabric, especially at the top crease.
- Sew along the edges. (The two sides that make the point)
- Turn the bandana “right side” out. Be very careful not to pull too hard!
- One more final ironing…And this can be considered “complete,” but I like to do one more step and sew straight across from the bottom of the collar opening to the other side.

As you can see, Dottie the cat doesn’t mind the cute bandana at all. She’s also a huge Iowa Hawkeye fan so that probably helps! =D
