Cheap Mold/Mildew Remover

Sometimes I do things without thinking. Hmm, this doesn’t sound like it is going in a good direction-but I promise it is! I began this blog as a way to share my creative outlet, random cooking experiences, baking recipes and also some household tips that I have picked up.  This post is one of those tips that I would never have thought to share until now…

The other day I noticed some mold/mildew growing in my shower. Thanks to the nice warm, moist air in the bathroom, this was no surprise.  Immediately I found an empty spray bottle and filled it up with a 50/50 solution of bleach and water and lightly sprayed the unwanted green.  Who needs to pay $4-$5 for fancy named mold/mildew remover when some bleach will work?  I spray the area 1-2 times a day until the mold/mildew disappears. If caught early, this can mean only 2 days! The really tough spots can take a few weeks.

If you do follow my tip, please note the following: do not spray on any metal fixtures (faucets or knobs), be very careful of over spray as it will discolor/bleach anything it comes into contact with, use in a well-ventilated room, and remember that a little goes a long way-I coat the infected area with a light mist.  If you re-use an old spray bottle from another cleaner, make sure to clean both the bottom bottle part and the sprayer part.  Mixing chemicals can be very dangerous!
