Painting Concrete

finished block
I painted a landscape block for my mom and now she “needs” a 2nd one for the other side of her yard. This is a very easy project that can be a kid’s craft too! You just need to have the appropriate paints to make sure it lasts. Also, the blocks need to be stored in the garage or a shed when the snow falls. Snow and those other cold elements make the paint fade and peel faster than anything.
I used this "Primer" for the base coat. It specifically says that it can be used on concrete and masonry and is interior/exterior. These are the key words to look for in a paint. I used a bristle brush and put it in a ziplock bag to keep it for future uses. This is a tip that I learned when working with oil based paints. (purchased this quart at Menards). The "Patio Paints" are a purchase I got on Amazon. The bottles are small, but they will cover a lot! These paints are soap/water washable, and I used my regular art paint brushes for them.

Let it dry for 24-48 hours between coats.  I painted 2 coats on the landscape blocks.  The “Patio Paints” are a purchase I got on Amazon. The bottles are small, but they will cover a lot! Allow 24-48 hours for dry time for these as well.  When all complete, apply a coat of varnish/polyurethane (I prefer the spray can type for this).
Here's a close up to one of the birds on the block.

This is the one I customized for my own yard.

I used the same paints to do my street curb. If you do this project, make sure that rain is not in the forecast for 3 days. I used stencils for the numbers. I made my white block a little too big...because I had to cover up my "oops" from dripping.
