Sometimes we put frozen green beans or other veggies in the tray above the rice when we make it in the rice cooker. This makes it easier to get all the sides ready for meals and we use less pans…which means less mess to clean up.
Green beans retain their green color when steamed and taste delicious. The only downside is they do not retain as much of their nutritional value (vitamins and such). Broccoli and cauliflower work also. Asparagus cooks well in the steam tray, but it usually makes the rice below discolored because of its juices. I love experimenting with kitchen appliances!
