DIY Potpourri Gift Vase

These vases make great gifts and also make great Christmas decorations. I used to make them every holiday season for friends and family. The lights inside the vase warm up the potpourri and make it more fragrant in the air. Of course you should not leave these unattended and should not have them plugged in for more than 4 hours or so.

You can purchase the vase and potpourri any time of the year at any retailer. The lights are best to buy at Christmas time. Actually, they are best to buy AFTER Christmas during the sales. I purchased the potpourri, vase and light set at the Dollar Tree. I highly recommend the smaller count lights. If you have too many lights then they take up too much space in the vase.  This 20 count is perfect. It gives off just enough light and warmth to the potpourri.

Cover the bottom of the vase with potpourri then gently guide the lights into the vase. Try to arrange them in a way that they are not all bunched up in one place. I pour a little potpourri into the vase at a time and move the lights as I go.

When it is filled then it is time to decorate. On this one I put a simple holiday ribbon and bow.  Plug in the vase and enjoy the subtle light and fragrance from the vase.  The potpourri smell will last 4-6 weeks.  It can always be re-done with fresh potpourri or used just for the lighting.
