I have a terrible habit of eating chocolate chips when I need my chocolate fix. It’s sad because I have to have one bag for baking and one for my stash. To make things a little bit healthier, I came up with this quick treat that is salty and sweet. If I did my math right, it is about 50 calories each. Ingredients needed are: chocolate chips (dark chocolate or the Hershey’s Special Dark are the best), walnuts and salt (ground coarse salt is what I use).
Place a piece of wax paper onto a cookie sheet (not pictured). Lay 10-12 walnuts on a piece of wax paper, about 1-2 inches apart.
Melt 1/2 cup of the chocolate in the microwave for 1 minute. Stir. Continue to cook in the microwave for another minute, but make sure to stir it every 20-30 seconds.
Slowly pour a spoon of chocolate on top of the walnut.
Lightly salt each treat. Place them in the fridge for the chocolate to set. (This is when having them on a cookie sheet is a good idea-easier to move them from counter to fridge). They should be ready in 10 minutes. If you don’t eat them right away, package them carefully in a container with pieces of wax paper between the layers. Melted chocolate chips is not a firm chocolate, so it melts very easy and the treats can easily stick to each other if kept in 70 degree+ space. I kept mine in the fridge. Another bonus to keeping them in the fridge is-out of sight out of mind.
